Backend Engineering
API and backend development — the part users never see, done right.
I design and build the backend systems a product depends on: REST APIs, third-party integrations, database schemas and the automation connecting them — built for correctness and clear failure behavior, not just the happy path.
What I build
- REST APIs and backend services for existing frontends
- Third-party integrations — payment providers, data sources, auth providers
- Database schema design and migrations
- Webhook handling and event-driven backend logic
- Data pipelines and backend automation connecting multiple systems
Who it's for
- Teams with a frontend that needs a solid backend underneath it
- Products with non-trivial integration requirements
- Companies that need backend architecture reviewed or rebuilt before it becomes a liability
How I approach it
Correctness first
Data integrity and correct behavior under concurrent or repeated requests come before optimizing for speed of delivery.
Clear contracts
APIs are designed with explicit, typed contracts so frontend and backend can move independently without guessing.
Designed for failure
Retries, idempotency and error handling are part of the design, not a patch added after the first production incident.
Documented, not a black box
Endpoints, schemas and integration behavior are documented well enough that another engineer can work with them.
Frequently asked
- Can you build just the backend for a frontend team I already have?
- Yes — this is a common split, with a typed API contract agreed on upfront so both sides can build in parallel.
- Do you handle database design, or only application code?
- Schema design and migrations are part of backend work — the data model usually determines whether the rest of the system stays maintainable.
